    Electric hot water

Electric is a simple way of heating hot water. It’s good to know that your hot water cylinder does not need to be inside if you’re really struggling for space. Pipe Masters Hamilton are here to help you, with our team knowing all the ins and outs of electric hot water.

    Gas hot water

Both natural and LPG gas are available in Hamilton, depending on where you live. A great benefit of gas is that you can say farewell to those times when you run out of hot because it’s already been used. Also, gas can be combined with a storage tank and solar to create even more efficiency. What’s more, Pipe Masters can certify this gas work.

    Heat pump (air to water)

Air to water heat pumps convert the same technology used in refrigerators to extract heat from the air and transfer it into the water. These units can operate down to -7°C and reduce energy use by up to 65% compared to a conventional electric storage hot water system. Call Pipe Masters today, or send us a message, about an air to water option for your home.

    Past Work

The Pipe Masters team have extensive experience in hot water systems. We’d love to help you find the right solution for your home.

    Hot water plumbing tips

What to do if your hot water cylinder is old

For this, you can check by what’s commonly known as the ‘Ajax’ valve – having a copper pipe sticking out of your roof or the obvious ‘low pressure’ label on your cylinder. You may still have excellent cold water pressure, known as an ‘unequal pressure’ hot water system. Looking to install tapware on this system? Ensure it is suitable for the pressure type.

What to do if water is running out the pipe in the roof

If this is happening, it means you have a pressure limiting valve releasing water through the valve. You need to either adjust the valve by turning the bottom screw to wind back the pressure, replace the washer inside or replace the valve and reset it. The last of which is the best option if the valve is quite old. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact Pipe Masters Hamilton for help.

What to do if you have no hot water

If you have no hot water, begin by checking the switch in the hot water cupboard has not been switched off. The next option is to check the circuit breaker on your switchboard has not tripped - This is normally labelled hot water. Should both of these options be fine, then a) the thermostat or element (or both) has failed and will need to be replaced. Or, it means b) the ripple control has tripped. The ripple control is a circuit normally on the main circuit board. It can be switched on and off by the power board to manage peak energy flows. These can fail sometimes, and your utility power supplier will come and replace it. An electrician can normally you up and running. Contact Pipe Masters for help if uncertain – we’re here to support you.
