PLUMBING TIPS

If you’re not sure if you have low or mains pressure, check to see if there is a copper pipe coming through the roof – this is one of the tell tales that you have a low pressure HWC – If you are buying tap ware for this pressure, make sure it meets the pressure requirements.

BUSINESS OPERATIONS

MY PRESSURE IN THE SHOWER TO TOO LOW

Chances are you have a low pressure hot water cylinder. Sometimes you can get a small pressure boost by installing a valve on the roof or extending your vent pipe, but this is only a minimal change.

To get genuine mains pressure you need to change your hot water cylinder to a mains pressure HWC or gas califont.

There are a few key things to check especially with gas – get a pipe master out to advise you on anything further.

I HAVE OLD BLACK PIPE THAT KEEPS BURSTING (DUX QUEST)

Dux Quest was an early type of black plastic piping used in houses in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s. Within ten years or so, it was recognised as a serious problem with pipes and fittings bursting all over the country.

Insurance companies generally will void covering you if this is not replaced. It can be recognised by its black colour with copper and plastic fittings.

Get as much of this replaced as possible as soon as possible.

HOW CAN I TURN HOTWATER OFF?

There will be a meter box generally at the front of your property, either by the drive or in the front berm.

You will need a screwdriver to pry open the box to turn this off. If you’re not sure which is yours, a handy tip is to run a hose tap on full bore, Your meter should be spinning fast and you can check the tap to make sure you have the correct meter!
