Pipemasters Specialise in Gas Fitting
Gas can be dangerous, so make sure you’re using a professional. If its putting in a Gas hob, completing a Gas hot water upgrade, make sure you have a Gas certificate for the work completed. There are various levels or risk (high, med and low) and all installations must adhere to specific measurements, sizing and clearances. With gas, Pipe Masters is by the book!
GAS FITTING TIPS
If you are doing research and you’re wondering about different gas types. In NZ we have two types of gas for residential use – Natural Gas (methane) and LPG (Propane/ Butane mix). You can tell if you have Natural gas as it comes via a meter from the street and LPG is supplied generally via either a 9KG bottle or 2x 45kg bottles for appliances with higher gas consumption eg. Hot water.
HELPFUL HINTS AND TIPS
Typically this is based on weight, however if you have 2x 45kg gas bottles, normally you will have a ‘auto change over regulator’ inbetween the bottles.
When one bottle runs out, the regulator automatically changes to the full bottle – Other than weight, there is normally a red indicator when the regulator has swapped, this means you need to order another one from your utility provider.
Sometimes when bottles are changed, air finds its way into the gas line causing a air lock. This air needs to be purged out for your gas califont. The best way to do that is to let the gas unit turn on and off to try and flush the air out – this may take up to 5 mins of turning on and off.
If you have no luck, call your gas fitter to purge out the gas by opening up a pipe (do not try yourself – qualified persons only!)
