Overview
Want hot water whenever you need it? Pipe Masters specialise in making your water hot, wherever you are in the Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Manawatu. Technology has given us plenty of options. Check them out below and get in touch if you have any questions. We’re here to help.
Electric hot water
Electric is a simple way of heating hot water and your hot water cylinder does not need to be inside if you’re really struggling for space. The Pipe Masters team know all the ins and outs of electric hot water and are here to guide you.
Gas hot water
Both natural and LPG gas are available depending on where you live. The benefit of gas is that you can say goodbye to the days of running out of hot water because someone else has used it all. Gas can be combined with a storage tank and solar to create even more efficiency, and Pipe Masters can certify this gas work.
Heat pump (air to water)
Air to water heat pumps convert the same technology used in refrigerators to extract heat from the air and transfer it into the water. These units can operate down to -7°C and reduce energy use by up to 65% compared to a conventional electric storage hot water system. Contact Pipe Masters today about an air to water option for your home.

Tips from the experts
What if your hot water cylinder is old?
You can check by what’s commonly known as the ‘Ajax’ valve – having a copper pipe sticking out of your roof or the obvious ‘low pressure’ label on your cylinder. You may still have excellent cold water pressure, known as an ‘unequal pressure’ hot water system. Looking to install tapware on this system? Ensure it is suitable for the pressure type.
What if water is running out of the pipe in the roof?
This means you have a pressure limiting valve releasing water through the valve. You need to either adjust the valve by turning the bottom screw to wind back the pressure, replace the washer inside or replace the valve and reset it. The last of which is the best option if the valve is quite old.
What if you have no hot water?
Start by checking the switch in the hot water cupboard has not been switched off. The next option is to check the circuit breaker on your switchboard has not tripped. This is normally labelled hot water. If both of these options are fine, then a) the thermostat or element (or both) has failed and will need to be replaced. Or b) the ripple control has tripped. The ripple control is a circuit normally on the main circuit board. It can be switched on and off by the power board to manage peak energy flows. These can fail sometimes, and your utility power supplier will come and replace it. An electrician can also get you up and running.
